I have been playing acoustic and electric guitar for over 30 years – since I was 11 years old – and have been teaching since 2001. I have played in many bands, exploring many different styles, including folk, punk, metal, prog rock, blues, jazz, hip hop, and drum and bass. I am currently in several bands, playing anything from swing and bebop, through gypsy jazz, blues and country, to afrobeat, funk and prog. (See the videos below, for some examples.) The stylistic breadth of my experience, which is reflected also in the diverse range of music I listen to, continues to be an important asset in my teaching.
In addition to guitar tutoring, I have also worked as a Learning Mentor at a Sixth Form College in Norwich, as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language in London, and as an Associate Tutor at UEA, where I completed a PhD in modernist literature. My debut novel Forbidden Line was published by Galley Beggar Press in 2016. I live in Norwich with my two sons.
